El “Design Discovery” tiene como finalidad ofrecer a alumnos de 1er y 2do año de la carrera de arquitectura, una experiencia académica de 6 semanas en la Graduate School of Design (GSD) de Harvard University.
Durante ese tiempo, los alumnos tendrán la posibilidad de compartir con estudiantes de todas partes del mundo, en un programa que ofrece espacios de aprendizaje en el ámbito de la arquitectura, diseño urbano, diseño del paisaje y planeamiento urbano. Los alumnos que participen se verán enfrentados a un ejercicio académico de alto nivel, que sin duda marcará profundamente su formación como futuros arquitectos.
La convocatoria está abierta exclusivamente a alumnos de 1er y 2do año de la carrera de Arquitectura UDD.
El Design Discovery se llevará a cabo entre el 17 de Junio y el 26 de Julio de 2019.
El valor del programa dependerá del número de inscritos. Y será publicado de acuerdo a la demanda de postulaciones que tenga el programa.
Se exigirá una entrevista personal y rendir examen de inglés proporcionado por Duolingo https://englishtest.duolingo.com/ con un puntaje mínimo de 61.
Se recibirán pre postulaciones hasta el día viernes 21 de diciembre. Posteriormente los postulantes deberán completar su postulación con una entrevista personal y el
test de Inglés.

entrevista.
El Design Discovery es un programa académico full time, por lo que los alumnos que deseen asistir al programa, deberán tramitar una F-1 Student Visa

Jenny French
Coordinating Faculty, Architecture
Jenny French is a Design Critic in Department of Architecture teaching in the core
studio sequence, and a founding partner of the Boston-based studio, French 2D.
French 2D’s work explores a wide disciplinary range – from new models of urban
living, including micro-housing and co-housing, to installations intersecting art,
identity, and information. French 2D’s work has been published in Arch
Daily, Architectural Record, and exhibited at MoMA, the BSA, and the 13th Venice
Architecture Biennale. She received a BA in art history and studio art from
Dartmouth College and a MArch from the GSD. She is a recipient of the GSD’s Julia
A. Appleton Traveling Fellowship and has been a visiting artist at the American
Academy in Rome.
Danielle Choi
Coordinating Faculty, Landscape Architecture
Danielle Choi is an Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Harvard
Graduate School of Design. She teaches in the Masters of Landscape Architecture
core studio sequence and leads design research seminars.
Choi’s research concerns the role of landscape architecture in the political ecology of
the built environment. At the turn of the 20th century, large-scale infrastructure and
public parks in American cities co-authored multiple narratives of environmental
control, crisis management, and regional boundaries. Currently, her research on
these issues concerns civil waterworks, aquatic ecology, and the public realm in
Chicago, and the politics of landscape preservation in these living environments.
Choi is a licensed landscape architect in New York State and founder of LILAC. She
was the 2016-2017 Daniel Urban Kiley Fellow in Landscape Architecture at the GSD.
Prior to joining the GSD, she taught studio in urban design at Columbia University
GSAPP and was a senior associate at Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates in New
York City, where she led strategy and design of complex urban landscapes and
managed large multi-disciplinary teams. Choi also worked as a designer at Topotek
in Berlin and SCAPE in New York City. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in art history
from the University of Chicago and a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the
GSD, where she received the Jacob Weidenmann graduation award for excellence
in design.
Stephen Gray
Coordinating Faculty, Urban Planning & Design
Stephen Gray is Assistant Professor of Urban Design with experience working in
complex urban environments with municipal agencies, colleges and universities,
private developers, non-profits, and the public. His interests center on the
intersection of design and engagement as tools for empowerment as well as drivers
for the production of progressive urbanism, and his research focuses on (1)
humanist approaches to urban design at the intersection of politics, power, race, and
place; (2) socioecological urban design approaches to urban resilience; (3) urban
peacescapes that integrate peacebuilding, development, and urban design; and
(4) implementation strategies for urban design projects across social, political,
spatial, temporal, and geographic scales. Current projects include the Harvard
Mellon Urban Initiative where his team is revisiting well-known places in Boston
through graphic collage and digital animation of archival sources to highlight the
collision of racially biased policies and civil disobedience; and the design and
implementation of child-focused public space facilities to improve the quality of life
for Syrian refugee families in Lebanon.
Jeffrey Klug
Faculty Director, Design Discovery Program
Jeffrey Klug is the co-founder of the firm BUTZ + KLUG Architecture, a Boston-
based architecture firm. He received his Bachelor’s in Environmental Design from
Auburn University, studied Architecture at the University of Virginia, and received his
Master in Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He
also studied Urban Design at Cornell University. He is the author of several articles
published in Zone, the Cornell Journal of Architecture, and the AIA New York
magazine. His firm’s work has been the recipient of several international awards for
furniture design as well as architectural design and has been published in Design
Bureau Magazine, Dwell, Design New England, the Boston Globe, and Boston Home
Magazine. He has taught architectural design at Yale, MIT, and the ETH in Zurich,
Switzerland.
